ABOUT THE ARTIST
| Dana Gaines was born and raised on Martha's Vineyard, where he developed a keen appreciation for the sea and all things nautical. He attended island schools and graduated from Williams College with a degree in Fine Art and secondary concentration in History, including a semester of Maritime Studies at Mystic Seaport. An accomplished oarsman and paddler, he often ventures offshore to capture a unique "mariner's-eye-view" of his subjects. |

 Dana uses a combination of pen line, watercolor and airbrush to achieve an exquisite level of detail in his renderings. Informational text is often interwoven with the composition to enhance the viewer's understanding and appreciation for the subject matter - be it ships, lighthouses, maps, architecture, or natural history.
In addition to his own published work, Dana has produced hundreds of commissioned architectural portraits and scores of posters, illustrations, and jigsaw puzzle designs. |
